WORK EXPERIENCE

(a) Name of Company (Institution):

Egerton University, Department of Electrical & Control Engineering

Position Occupied:

Lecturer

Duration:

May 2004 – up to date

Duties and thematic areas

Teaching duties in subjects offered in the BSc. Instrumentation & Control degree course as per course allocation by chair of department. I have taught mostly courses in digital electronics (2nd & 3rd year), and control systems (4th & 5th year) as well as various others e.g. electronic devices (2nd year), Instrumentation & control (3rd year), Analog electronics (3rd year). In addition Measurements & Control, Computer Controlled Systems in MSc Engineering Systems & Management degree programme offered in the Industrial & Energy Engineering department. Currently teaching 2nd year students Principles of Automatic Control, 3rd year students Linear Systems & Control I, 4th years Linear Systems & Control II, 5th years Digital Control Systems, Multivariable Control Systems and Optimal Control Systems when the units are offered accordingly in the undergraduate degree program. I also undertake final year student project supervision amongst other duties as allocated by Head of Department.

(c) Name of Company (Institution):

INFM – Italian National Institute of the Physics of Matter.

Position Occupied:

Research Collaboration

Duration:

6 months – February 2002-September 2002

Duties involved:

The development of software in Visual Basic v.6.0 to monitor Field Emission Experiments. The integration of software into the LABVIEW (National Instruments) environment. GPIB instrument interface programming. Upgrading of software designed during research fellowship at the ICS-UNIDO dealing with Real-time Image Processing.

(d) Name of Institution

ICS-UNIDO - International Centre for Science and High Technology - United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

Position Occupied:

Research Fellow

Duration:

2 Years - 2000-2001

Duties and some topics involved:

Design of a Real-Time software application to control acquisition, processing and analysis of images in the field of optical microscopy.

Real-Time filtering of acquired images, measurement and counting of particles, production of images in four dimensions (xyz-time).

Real-Time processing: macro software performing live examination of dimensions and number of cells observed for studying the dynamics of the system evolution (growth in time response to chemical agents, etc.). Extraction of statistical parameters and morphological analysis.

Accomplishments:

  1. Identified, Designed and Implemented a cost-effective Real-Time Image Processing System (RTIPS) solution.
  2. Implementation based on Intel Image Processing Library and Open Computer Vision library with Real-Time features of: Image Filtering, Linear Transforms, Morphological Transformations, Sequential Image Processing, Contour Processing, Capture of AVI movie images etc.
  3. Participated in implementation of a software application developed in the field of Reflected High-Energy Electron Diffraction (RHEED). The Software was used in The Investigation of Growth Dynamics of thin films and Hetero-Structures of III-V Compounds by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE). The implementation was done by ICS-UNIDO in collaboration with APE Research Co. at the Area Science Park, Trieste, Italy. The results are of importance in the design of high-speed semiconductor materials for use in the electronic industry.
  4. Designed of an "In-house" Object-Oriented Video Capture software tool to enable Real-Time image capture as a replacement to the use of a commercial software application. This allowed full software control over the image capture process.
  5. Co-authored in an abstract titled:"Time Resolved Morphological Analysis Applied To Albumin Permeability Study of Renal Structure" written in collaboration with "Dipartimento di Medicina Clinica e Neurologia, Universita' degli Studi di Trieste". This abstract was presented in the 5th Multinational Congress on Electron Microscopy held at the University Of Lecce, ITALY in September 20-25, 2001.

(d) Name of Company:

Mera-Pnefal S.A., Process Control Company, Instrumentation Division, Poland.
