Agriculture and Rural Development in Africa
Evaluation: This is done at intervals; end semester, and after a 4 year cycle involving all stakeholders in the sector.
Research: I have successfully delivered on research supported by the African Forest Forum on 鈥淭he Role of the African Forest Private Sector in Climate Change鈥. There was a project report, fact sheet, policy brief, and journal article as deliverables. I have also taken part in writing more than 10 proposals for funding, most touching on communities and how to deliver knowledge products to them.

Nippon Koei Co Ltd (JICA 鈥揈CoRAD) Feb 2013 to May 2014
Programme Manager: Livelihoods (Enhancing Community Resilience Against Drought)
Serving as the Livelihoods manager for the JICA supported project on Enhancing Community Resilience Against Drought, I supervised socio-economic activities in improved livestock management, natural resources, and small scale agriculture in the two ASAL counties of Marsabit and Turkana. I also trained communities in small scale business management in Agriculture and fisheries around Lake Turkana.
Achievements
- I introduced high breeding Sasso Chicken and Galla goats in Marsabit County and distributed them to over 100 women in three self-help groups in far flung villages.
- Trained more than 200 community members on Village Community Banking (VICOBA)
- Trained women from Kalacha on better marketing strategies for their salt used as a livestock supplement
- Co-supervised the construction of a livestock market and drilling of 6 boreholes and one rock catchment for water provision in remote areas of Marsabit County
- Introduced suitable honey packaging materials and trained three women groups in gum, resins and honey production and marketing in Ngurnit area
- Trained over 100 farmers in the use of rain fed agriculture for production of food crops in Turkana County
- Provided advisory services to artisanal miners and other traders in small scale business management, coupled with business training
- Trained and mentored more than 40 fisher folks on fishing handling and marketing in Turkana County
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: This was done based on the results based framework recommended by Japan International Cooperation Agency. I carried out weekly, monthly, mid-term and final evaluations on all the project under my docket. Activities we repeated at project and programme level.

Successfully implemented training courses in Social Forestry and Agroforestry for 18 countries in eastern, central and southern Africa, namely: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Other self-supported beneficiaries included Ghana and Madagascar. Other responsibilities included:
