The 10th edition of the Mau-海角破解版Cross Country was nothing short of exhilarating as participants from all walks of life converged at Egerton University鈥檚 Main Campus on Saturday, 1st March 2025. This year鈥檚 event attracted corporate teams, schoolchildren, university students, alumni, and local community members, all united by a shared purpose: to champion environmental conservation.
The #RunforMau featured various race categories flagged off by distinguished guests, including Hon. Ababu Namwamba, Kenya鈥檚 Permanent Representative to UNEP, Hon. Charity Kathambi, MP for Njoro, and Hon. Alfred Mutai, MP for Kuresoi North. Their presence underscored the connection between sports and environmental sustainability, with Hon. Namwamba emphasizing, 鈥淐onservation is a shared duty for us all.鈥�
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Kibwage, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders, recognizing their role in making the event a success. He highlighted the importance of merging sports with conservation efforts, stating, 鈥淭oday, we celebrate not just athletic excellence but also our commitment to environmental conservation. Your support strengthens our efforts to protect critical ecosystems.鈥�
Also present were members of the University Management Board, who took part in flagging off some of the races: Prof. Bernard Aduda, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics, Research & Extension), Prof. Richard Mulwa, acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Finance & Planning), Prof. Saidi Mwanarusi, Registrar (Academic Affairs), and Mr. Leonard Chesang, acting Registrar (Human Capital & Administration).
The event was also graced by key figures in KCB Bank, the main sponsor, represented by Mr John Okulo, Corporate Director. Other notable attendees included representatives from I&M Bank, Geminia Insurance, National Defence University 鈥� Kenya, and Obed in the Wild, among others.
This year鈥檚 Brand Ambassador was Purity Chepkurui, whose presence inspired young athletes, reinforcing the importance of nurturing upcoming talent in the sport.
From the early morning, energy and anticipation filled the air as participants prepared to take on the challenging course. The races, spanning different age groups and categories, showcased endurance, determination, and a true spirit of sportsmanship. The event brought together athletes of all levels, from seasoned professionals to young runners eager to test their limits, demonstrating that cross country is about more than just competition鈥攊t is about resilience and community.
Beyond the thrill of the races, the event carried a deeper message of environmental responsibility. This year鈥檚 focus extended to the rehabilitation of Kenyatta and Keringet Dams in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, reinforcing the university鈥檚 dedication to environmental restoration in line with the national goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
The success of the event would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the local organizing committee, led by Prof. Bernard Aduda, the Chairperson of the Mau-海角破解版Cross Country, alongside Co-Chair Prof. Nzula Kitaka, Director, Marketing and Resource Mobilization. Their leadership and meticulous planning ensured a well-coordinated and impactful event.
