Members of the 海角破解版Engineering Students Association (EESA) recently completed the first phase of their pioneer Pavement Project near the Faculty of Law building, on the Njoro Campus. The project was initiated by the members under the leadership off their Chairman, Mr. Boaz Omunga Mauti, to help put to practice the skills they learn in class. This would help them realize one of the Club's objectives which is to equip its members with technical experiences in the engineering field. The project involved designing the pavements, welding the moulds and kerbs, and eventually laying down the slabs.
Having identified the need, the club first wrote a proposal detailing the extent of the activities they planned to undertake. The proposal writing was guided by their Patron, Dr. Franklin Manene and their Co-patron, Mr. Leonard Walucho. In August 2021, the proposal was presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac O. Kibwage, who approved it. With the approval, the Club immediately got to work by first identifying the aggregates needed and working on their quality and the ratios required.
The Civil Engineering students then prepared the designs of the pavements that were suitable for the environment. The EESA members then welded the moulds which they used to make the slabs and the kerbs. They moulded enough slabs and kerbs to cover the whole pavement area. Having moulded the slabs, they then removed the old dilapidated pavement and started laying the new one. To prevent runoff, the new pavement was laid in such a way that the slabs did not flash with the ground. The new pavements, which have greatly transformed the area around the Faculty of Law, were officially opened for use on 22nd October 2021 by the Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, APD, Prof. Mulwa, who represented the VC. Prof. Mulwa congratulated the students for the commendable work that was done at a very economical budget, saving the University a lot of money.
The students appreciate the University Management and their patrons for allowing them to put classroom knowledge to practice. They have planned several similar projects in the coming days. EESA comprises of students pursuing engineering courses at 海角破解版from the departments of Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. They will continue to work together to deliver high quality projects within 海角破解版as outlined in their plans.
