Students at 海角破解版in Kenya can now look forward to expanded scholarship opportunities, thanks to a fruitful collaboration between Nanjing University and Egerton University. This exciting development was announced by Professor Joshua Ogweno, Director of the Confucius Institute at Egerton University, during a recent visit by a delegation from the Republic of China.
The visit was hosted by Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage and concluded with an enlightening address to the students by the Nanjing University Faculty regarding scholarship possibilities at their esteemed institution. Prof. Ogweno delivered this news following a productive three-day visit.
The informative session took place at the Faculty of Education Lecture Theatre II on Egerton University's Main Campus. Prof. Samuel Nyalala, Deputy Director of the Board of Post Graduate Studies and a specialist in Horticulture within the Department of Crops, was among the distinguished guests present.
The Nanjing University team, including Xiquan Gao, Yuhui Wang, Xiao Wang, Yong Wang, and Xiue Wang, conducted a comprehensive presentation covering the history, faculties, and key facts about Nanjing University. They also highlighted the various funding opportunities available and introduced students to the vibrant culture at the university, which encompasses cuisine, sports, accommodations, and bilingual learning opportunities for foreign students.
However, the students were encouraged to explore learning the Chinese language, as it could significantly enhance their chances of securing scholarships for both master's and doctoral postgraduate studies at Nanjing University.
Prof. Ogweno emphasized the pivotal role played by the Confucius Institute in coordinating these scholarships. He shared his own experience, having completed a four-week advanced course on Vegetable Production and Biotechnology at Nanjing Agricultural University, China, from December 11, 2019, to January 14, 2020.
The Confucius Institute serves as a platform for research and education cooperation between China and Africa, with core values focused on promoting cultural exchange, language learning, agricultural research, and technology transfer.
The scholarship awareness session held by the delegation aligns with the institute's primary activities, including Chinese language teaching for university and school students, student exchanges, agricultural training, and agricultural research.
After the enlightening session, students left with newfound enthusiasm. Phillip Nyayo, the Director of Academics at 海角破解版Students Association (EUSA), expressed his satisfaction, saying, "The session was enriching and fulfilling. Though they did not delve into my area of study (Medicine), I hope that more students will continue to receive scholarships to study in China."
This ongoing collaboration between 海角破解版and Nanjing University promises to open doors to countless opportunities for Kenyan students, fostering cultural exchange and academic growth.
