The Division of Research at Egerton University, led by Prof. Nancy Mungai, is celebrating a significant win as Prof. Wilkister N. Moturi of the Environmental Science department at the Faculty of Environment and Resources Development secures a grant of 400,000 pounds equivalent to approximately 62,270,000 Million Kenyan shillings from the European Commission.
Prof Moturi is in collaboration with Sorbonne University, Paris, France, an is expected to bring in new perspectives and ideas to the research conducted by the faculty, leading to new discoveries, knowledge sharing, and a wider network of international researchers.
With the grant, a period running from Aug 1, 2022, to July 31, 2025, it will boost environmental research in the region.
This grant comes at a critical time when Kenya is experiencing the effects of climate change, with drought in most parts of the country. The funding will enable the faculty to explore ways to mitigate the effects of climate change and find sustainable solutions for the future, contributing to the development of policies and strategies aimed at conserving the environment and promoting sustainable development.
