SUMMARY

I am currently the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University. I have variously initiated and/or guided development and implementation of the strategic plan for 2018-2023 and policies of the University.

I am on unpaid leave of absence from the University of Nairobi where I serve as a Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy. I have published widely in my discipline.

During May 2007- May 2017, I successfully served as the Principal of College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi where I was the Academic Research, Financial and Administrative head of the college. The College comprises the Schools of; Medicine, Pharmacy, Dental Siences, Nursing Sciences and Public Health, the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Dieases, KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research, the East Africa Kidney Institute and the Centre for HIV/Aids Research and Prevention. I was responsible for all research activities at the College ensuring compliance to project objectives and prudent utilization of resources per approved budgets. I competently handled College responsibilities and guided its expansion and excellent performance culminating in it being awarded a Shield as ''Center of Excellence in the Health Sciences'' by the East African Community in 2014. Further, research funding grew about four times and the College had a continuous level of 鈥楨xcellent performance鈥� in performance contracting amongst the six colleges of the University.

I have held various positions in the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya including the Chairmanship for a period of 6 years. I have broad experience in the pharmaceutical regulatory systems locally and internationally, and specifically in the quality control and quality assurance of medicines. Due to my commitment and exemplary pharmaceutical services, I was awarded the 鈥淗ead of State Commendation鈥� and the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya conferred on me the title of 鈥淔ellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya''.

I have a demonstrated strong performance on Governance in institutions where I have chaired the Board or been a member.

In conclusion, I have a record of a successful, resourceful, competent and productive leader well prepared and capable of shouldering any responsibility entrusted to me.

  • I headed DARU , University of Nairobi, which generated about 10 million Shillings yearly. Facilities and resources were also used to teach students in practical and research projects.

TEACHING AND MENTORSHIP EXPERIENCES

Gave Lectures on Pharmaceutical Chemistry at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. On the average I supervised about 4 undergraduate student projects every year. I have successfully supervised 6 PhD theses and 12 students for Masters Degrees.
