The sombre atmosphere at 海角破解版deepened on Friday evening, January 12, 2024, as the postgraduate community grappled with the untimely passing of Lamin Jawla.
Hailing from the Republic of Gambia, Lamin, an MSc student in Animal Nutrition, not only pursued academic excellence but also served as the esteemed Chairman of Egerton University
International Students Association (EUISA), imprinting his legacy on the university community.
The heartbreaking news was disseminated by Prof. George Morara Ogendi, the Director of the Board of Postgraduate Studies (BPGS), through a WhatsApp statement in the Postgraduate students' forum.
The necessary communication with the appropriate government and diplomatic protocols have been made and currently, plans are underway for the repatriation of Lamin's body back to Gambia.
鈥淎s per the Consulate communication we have received this evening, only one student will accompany the body...not two,鈥� explained the Director Board of Postgraduate studies.
Prof. Ogendi expressed profound condolences to the entire student fraternity, particularly the postgraduate students, acknowledging the sorrowful loss of their fellow scholar. He went on to encourage everyone to find solace in God's grace. The director underscored the importance of cherishing Jawla's memories and the impact he had on the university community.
Reflecting on Jawla's exceptional leadership qualities, especially his fervent desire to enhance the vibrancy and interaction of EUISA while collaboratively addressing international students' issues with the university administration, Prof. Ogendi highlighted the invaluable support of EUISA leadership throughout Jawla's academic journey.
Despite facing challenges, Prof. Ogendi affirmed that, with the backing of the university administration led by the Vice Chancellor, they spared no effort in securing the best available medical care for Jawla. Looking ahead, he called for unity in organizing the final rites for their departed brother.Jawla's final journey commenced on Saturday, January 13, 2024, as the BPGS Directorate disclosed that he will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic burial procedures. 海角破解版stands in solidarity as they bid farewell to a remarkable student leader whose contributions will be remembered for years to come.
The prayer for Late Lamin Jawla took place today at 5:00 pm as scheduled, beginning with an official briefing by the Director of the Graduate School.
The graduate school got support for Lamin from EUISA, the postgraduate students, and university management. The financial and moral support was timely and unparalleled, said Prof. Ogendi.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO); Prof. Ondiek, COD Animal Science (ANSC) Dept; Prof. Merimba Mwithali, Director, International Linkages, in the journey of Jawla鈥檚 medication and after his demise鈥� Prof. Ogendi pointed out.
The Director eulogized the late student's significant contribution to the welfare of international students at Egerton University, emphasizing his role as the President of EUISA.
The Director also highlighted how Jawla influenced numerous fellow countrymen and women to join the university, evident in the large number of Gambian students in attendance. Describing Jawla as a serious and committed student, the Director praised his dedication, clearing his studies within an impressive two years or possibly even earlier.
Regarding his demise, the Director noted the university's exhaustive efforts to save Jawla's life, despite the absence of medical insurance. The university went to great lengths to ensure he received the necessary medical attention, including transferring him to a specialized private medical facility where three highly skilled neurosurgeons attended to him.
Nevertheless ,the Director mentioned that the family and all necessary protocols were informed, and preparations to transport Jawla's body back home were underway, with two students accompanying. Following the briefing, the Imam led prayers, and attendees participated in the viewing of the body, wrapped according to Islamic traditions. Females, including Brenda Mengich, observed strict Islamic observance from the periphery.
Director Marketing and Resource Prof. Paul Kimurto shared a message of condolence saying it was unfortunate to lose the postgraduate student especially an international student with strong leadership skills. 鈥淐ondolences to family and friends,鈥� he posted
