Resumption of Studies at Egerton University

º£½ÇÆƽâ°æis going through the most difficult chapter in its existence. The current strike is negatively affecting this institution. In addition, speculations in digital media are fueling these uncertain times. We are all part of one institution, and when there is a problem in one aspect, the ripple effects go far and wide. I deeply regret that we have found ourselves in this situation. However, I want to assure students, staff and the Egerton community that this situation will be short lived, it will not define who we are.

From the onset, I have been committed to reaching an agreement that is fair to our staff and, at the same time, one that takes into consideration the inadequate Government financing of public universities in Kenya. Negotiations between the Universities’ Academic Staff Union (UASU) Egerton Chapter, the University Management Board and the Government of Kenya are ongoing, and in due time, we will get an amicable solution. We are also continuously engaging with the other unions regarding their deferred staff salaries. Although the process is moving slowly, I am pleased to announce that we are making considerable progress.

º£½ÇÆƽâ°æis one of the leading institutions of higher learning in the country, and under my leadership, we will achieve more. We are in the process of revamping the IGUs to diversify our revenue streams. We are actively seeking more collaborations with institutions of higher all over the world to increase opportunities for scholarships and grants to our students and researchers, respectively. We are also seeking more partnerships in research and consultancies with various counties. All these are concerted efforts that reduce our dependency on capitation and fees.

On this note, I want to assure students, parents, and guardians that we will open the University soon. In-person teaching, learning, and end-of-semester examinations will resume in all our campuses: Main Campus in Njoro, Nakuru Town Campus College and E-Campus. Official communication will be available on our website ().

Thank you.
